ZennoBrowser Releases

ZennoBrowser in October: Chromium 155 and 156

Over the month, the ZennoBrowser engine moved through three major versions: 154, 155, and 156. The last two arrived in separate updates, 1.22.1 and 1.22.2, with no other changes.

In October, ZennoLab updated the ZennoBrowser engine four times. On October 1, version 1.21.0 moved the browser to Chromium 154. On October 6, version 1.21.1 introduced build 154.1.3 along with minor server-side fixes.

Version 1.22.0 was released on October 15 with a trash bin and temporary profiles; its announcement did not mention the engine. Version 1.22.1 followed on October 19 with Chromium 155 (the Telegram channel lists build 155.1.1), and version 1.22.2 arrived on October 29 with Chromium 156. Both versions are marked “Chrome only” on the forum. Their announcements mention no other changes besides the engine.

ZennoLab explained the frequent updates back in September, in the announcement for 1.20.0: Chromium had switched to a release cycle of once every two weeks, so the company decided to ship new engine versions more often and deliver them as patches. Over six weeks, from September 16, the engine moved from version 152 to 156.

There is no way to roll back to a previous version of ZennoBrowser. On October 7, a user complained in the 1.21.1 thread that, after the update, threads were hanging for an hour again and asked about rolling back. Support replied that rollback was unavailable “for technical reasons” and asked the user to send a report.
