ixBrowser on Excess Proxy Traffic Caused by Chrome Policy Updates

The vendor warned that automatic Chrome policy updates may increase traffic usage and suggested two ways to reduce it: adding Google to the Bypass List and enabling Disable Update Traffic.

ixBrowser’s Help Center has published an article about increased traffic usage. The English version was last edited on August 26, 2026. According to the vendor, automatic policy updates in Google Chrome may cause some users to notice higher-than-usual traffic consumption. For those who pay for proxies by volume, that means direct additional costs.

The article describes a manual workaround: enable “Bypass List” on the proxy settings page and enter google in the field. For users who purchased an ixBrowser traffic package and connected it to their profiles, this optimization is already enabled by default. In version 2.9.26, released on August 14, ixBrowser also disabled updates for certain extensions to reduce potential traffic usage. The changelog does not say whether this change is related to Chrome policies.

A separate “Disable Update Traffic” setting is described in the September 30 Help Center article under the profile’s Preference Settings. According to the Help Center and API documentation, it disables browser security policy updates to save traffic. The setting is disabled by default; in the API, it is represented by the preference_config.disable_update_traffic parameter.

What to keep in mind: The API documentation describes Bypass List as a list of domains that bypass the proxy. In the Chinese version of the Help Center, the option is called “whitelist for direct connections.” If you work with Google Ads, Gmail, or other Google services in your profiles, check with support which IP address requests to Google will originate from before enabling the exception.
