Kameleo 5.0: Token-Based Login, Account-Free Use, and Engine Instead of CLI

Version 5.0 removes email-and-password login from the API, lets you launch profiles without an account, and renames Kameleo.CLI to Kameleo.Engine. Existing scripts will need updating.

Kameleo 5.0 was released on June 16, 2026. The company announced it on Telegram a week before launch and called it the biggest release in a long time on release day. Some of the changes break compatibility with older automation scripts.

The biggest changes concern authentication. Email-and-password login has been removed entirely and replaced with a personal access token (PAT), issued at login.kameleo.io. If the old email and password parameters remain in the settings, the Engine will not start, according to the release notes. The desktop app now opens browser-based OIDC login. An account-free mode is also available: you can launch a profile without registering.

The background service Kameleo.CLI has been renamed Kameleo.Engine. On macOS, the Contents/Resources/CLI folder has become Contents/Resources/Engine. The runningTeamProfiles field has been removed from the user-info response; it now contains runningProfiles.user and runningProfiles. The SDK now includes a method for checking whether the Engine is running, and pw-bridge for Playwright with the Junglefox browser engine is now included in the SDK packages. When no explicit parameters are provided, fingerprint search now uses the host OS by default and prefers desktop Chrome.

In its announcement, the company said that headless mode and Docker are available on all plans starting with 5.0. Version 4.5.0 will remain available for at least several months.

What to do before upgrading: Issue a PAT and replace the password with it in all scripts and SDK settings. In deployment scripts and Docker configurations, replace Kameleo.CLI with Kameleo.Engine.
