Octo Browser Releases

Octo Browser in September: Chromium 153 and 154 Browser Engines

In September, Octium released two updates, moving to Chromium 153 and then 154, both two days after Chrome. In version 154, the camera feed can be replaced without reloading the page.

In September 2026, Octo Browser updated its Octium browser engine twice. The Chromium 153-based version was released on September 10, followed by the Chromium 154-based version on September 24. Shortly beforehand, on August 31, the engine had moved to Chromium 152.

The updates became more frequent because of Chrome itself. According to the Chromium Dash schedule, stable versions of Chrome 153, 154, and 155 were released on September 8, September 22, and October 6, respectively, at two-week intervals. Versions 147 through 152, by contrast, were released every four weeks. Octo is keeping pace: Chromium 153 and 154 appeared in Octium two days after their Chrome releases, while Chromium 155 arrived on October 8, also two days later. The gap was six days for version 152: Chrome was released on August 25, and Octium on August 31.

The post announcing the update to version 154 also mentions a functional change in the Telegram channel: video stream spoofing was improved, and camera video can now be spoofed without reloading the page. This item is not listed in the Octium 154 changelog. Octo's mobile apps have supported this since launch, while desktop video stream spoofing for macOS was added in January with Octium 144.

The company attributes the frequent browser engine updates to anti-fraud protection. According to Octo, regular synchronization with Chromium is necessary because websites analyze hundreds of parameters to detect browser fingerprint spoofing. Desktop client users only need to avoid postponing updates.
